PIA revenue increases by 13pc

The revenue of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has increased by 13 percent. This was announced in a statement of the national carrier issued here on Monday.It said that the PIA’s 298th Board Meeting was held in Karachi on Monday with the Chairman and CEO PIA, Tariq Kirmani, in the chair.

PIA Board approved the 3rd quarterly accounts for the period July-September 2006 and the interim condensed financial statements (un-audited) for the nine months period ended September 30, 2006. The overall revenue of the nine months to September 2006 has increased by 13per cent.



SSGC accounts approved

The 52nd Annual General Meeting of shareholders of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on Monday approved the audited accounts for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2006.

Shareholders unanimously approved the annual audited accounts as presented, which declared 13 percent dividend amounting to Rs1.30 per share of Rs10 for the year under review, a press release issued here said.

Addressing the meeting Chairman SSGC Aitzaz Shahbaz observed that Pakistan’s ‘Mashal’ LNG import project has helped put the country into the world’s LNG radar screen. Sales revenue of the company increased in value over the previous year by 26 percent to Rs68.5 billion with a corresponding increase of 6 percent in gas volume to 359bcf.



PTCL Q1 profit down 6.9pc

Pakistan Telecommunication Co Ltd (PTCL) posted a 6.9 per cent fall in quarterly profit on Monday, a drop analysts said came as competition ate into international call revenue and outweighed subscriber growth.

PTCL - the country’s fourth-largest listed company with a market value of around $2.9 billion - said net profit in its first quarter to end-September fell to Rs5.15 billion ($85million) from Rs5.53 billion a year earlier.

PTCL’s control of Pakistan’s land-line sector has been eroded since the government opened up the market in 2002, but it still dominates the sector, and also operates mobile phone and Internet services.



OGDCL declares Rs1.75 dividend

The Oil and Gas Development Company Ltd (OGDCL) has announced a quarterly profit after tax of Rs12.328 billion and dividend per share of Rs1.75.

A meeting of the Board of Directors of OGDCL was held under the chairmanship of Arshad Nasar, Chief Executive of the company, the other day at Islamabad to consider the quarterly accounts of the company for the period ended September 30, 2006.

According to a press release issued here on Monday, during the first quarter of 2006-07, the company earned profit after taxation of Rs12.328 billion as against Rs9.021 billion in the same period last year.



PPL approves 55pc final dividend

   

The 55th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Pakistan Petroleum Ltd (PPL) on Monday approved a final cash dividend of 55 per cent on Ordinary Share Capital for the fiscal year 2005-06.

This final cash dividend is in addition to the interim dividend of 35 per cent on Ordinary Share Capital and 30 per cent on Convertible Preference Shares Capital already paid to the shareholders in April this year, said a press release issued here.

Chairman PPL M A K Alizai said the company has been able to maintain the momentum of consistent and rapid growth in financial year 2005-06. He informed the meeting that the PPL’s sales revenue increased by 36 per cent to Rs31.8 billion.



KSE to be corporatized, demutualized by December 31, 2006

Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) has set December 31, 2006, for demutualization of the exchange as part of reform process and to run it on international professional lines, according to annual report 2006 issued here on Monday.

On behalf of KSE Board of Directors, Zaffar A Khan, Chairman and M A Lodhi, Managing Director in their directors’ report said, “Through insertion of a new section 32E in the Securities and Exchange Ordinance, 1969 by virtue of Finance Bill 2006-07, it has been envisaged that the Stock Exchanges shall stand corporatized and demutualized by December 31, 2006 or from such later date as may be permitted by the Commission.”

Dawood Hercules okays interim cash dividend

The board of directors of Dawood Hercules Chemicals Ltd has approved second interim cash dividend of Rs2 per share (20 per cent) representing a total payout of Rs3.50 per share (35 per cent) to-date on a cumulative basis for the year ending 31st December 2006.

The board of directors has also approved the un-audited accounts of the company for the 3rd quarter of 2006. As per highlights of the financial results, the company’s sales stood at Rs2,644 million in 2006 as compared to Rs2,248 million in 2005. The gross profit has been Rs866 million against last year’s Rs851 million.
